ABOUT US.png
OUR STORY.png

At The Dojo, we honor the tradition of Kodokan Judo founder Kano Jigoro Shihan, who began his journey as a boy practicing Jiu Jitsu to build his strength.

Our expert instructors, which include champions in both Shi'ai (combat) and Kata (form), as well as the head coach of Raffles Institution, work with children and adults alike to unleash the power of physical and mental energy through martial arts.

When you join The Dojo, you’re not just a student: you’re a valued member of a closely-knit community of passionate and compassionate people who share the common goal of becoming our best selves.

TAN YI
PRINCIPAL INSTRUCTOR

With 38 years of experience under his belt, Tan Yi, who has a 5th Dan from the International Judo Federation, is no stranger to the local judo scene. As an athlete, he has won numerous championships right from when
he first started Judo as a 14-year-old, winning the coveted ‘Best Boy’ medal that year.

He then went on to dominate the local judo scene in the later part of the 80s through to the ’90s, when he retired from competitive Judo and began to coach full-time. During that time, he won every Age-Group and Kyu-Grade championship that he competed in, as well as represented Singapore at numerous competitions overseas, ranging from Malaysia to Korea.

The epitome of his competitive career came from bronze medals in both the heavy and open-weight categories in the 1995 South-East Asian Games in Thailand.
