Judo, which means "gentle way" in Japanese, is a martial art created by Jigoro Kano in 1882.
In 1964, Judo became the first martial art to be sanctioned as a medal sport in the Olympic Games.
Points are awarded for throwing an opponent on his back, holding an opponent on his back for a designated amount of time, or forcing an opponent to submit via ‘tapping out’ to an armlock or choke.
Judo demands both physical prowess and great mental discipline.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO START
For your first lesson, all you need to try judo is baggy/loose old clothing (something you don’t mind stretching) or basic gym kit – a t-shirt and long pants.
For long term practice you can purchase a basic judo kit/ uniform called a judogi. Our in-house brand ‘GRAB’ judogi are available in many sizes.
You should also bring plenty of water to stay hydrated during your session and plenty of energy and enthusiasm!
